I would like to begin this newsletter with the announcement of online chess classes that are now available through eProf Education, Inc.
The introductory chess class is scheduled for May 25th at 9am Eastern Daylight Time. Registration is free for all students; so even the students who have previously been enrolled in our chess classes are welcome to sign up to experience the full benefits of online education. There is no obligation to continue.
The May 25th class will introduce the students to the game of chess. It will cover the value of each piece at the beginning of the game and how to increase the value of your pieces while decreasing the value of your opponent’s pieces. Students will also learn positional chess.
I believe that selecting between traditional classes and online classes would fit your schedule best. Also, the online classes provide a unique opportunity to learn chess, right from your home. Please visit our website http://www.columbiaacademyus.com/chess.html for more information and the registration instructions.
To get an idea of what a typical online class looks like, you can watch this video. If there are any technical issues with registration using Internet Explorer 8, please feel free to e-mail me, Alex Iovel, at info@columbiaacademyus.com. The eProf tech support team will rectify the issues as soon as they are notified.
Assuming that there is sufficient registration, the introductory class will be followed by the chess course – a series of eight progressive online classes. The course will cover rules for the opening, tactics, middlegame strategies, endgame technique, famous chess games, and other important topics. The classes are taught by national master Jim West.
